The Remarkable Tale of Radio 1: The History of the Nation’s Favourite Station, 1967–95 Customer Reviews
:- 3.0 out of 5 stars from Jeff Featherstone -- Some great details of the background story, let down by too many simple errors : If you're looking for a book that gives an understanding of the background story of Radio One, this is a great place to start, but please don't rely on each and every piece of information being correct. For example, ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 25, 2021 )
- 2.0 out of 5 stars from jeff simpson -- BIT OF A RANDOM JUMBLE OF QUOTE AND ANECDOTES - AND NO FEMALES WERE INTERVIEWED : The author interviewed about 30 men (only men), from producers to DJs. So yes, there are some fun moments described in first hand accounts. But this approach is frustrating for the reader - because there's no overview of why things happened, it's just a list of 'this happened - funny story' then 'that happened - funny story'. Without a proper understanding of why this or that happened. So there's no over-arcing narrative to keep you engaged. And, of course, the first hand witnesses tend to big up their own role in the proceedings - for example, with remarkable hindsight, many of them claim to have championed important bands or genres of music. In the later stages, they're all very bitter and grumpy about the changes in the mid-90s, but again with no context. And there's hardly anything about Chris Evans, Zoe Ball, Chris Moyles, which were big and important shows. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 27, 2021 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Robert Huckin -- VERY GOOD READ : This book is an excellent read from start to finish. A couple of inaccurate facts that would, in fairness, only be picked up by a radio geek (like me). Superbly presented with great photos and clear evidence that a lot of work and research had been done prior to publishing. Highly recommended. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 15, 2021 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Jase -- Great read, evoked many happy memories of radio 1 during my formative years. : Really enjoyed reading this book, jogged the memories and I was shocked that in 1992,my girlfriend and I were some of the many people that were at that great 25th anniversary concert in Sutton Park, happy times indeed. - 3.0 out of 5 stars from Phil -- Nothing new : This is good but tells us nothing new. Dull in places ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 4, 2021 )
